potatoes on a neighbour's plot

are mulched up with grass cuttings. Any ideas why ? I've tried it with 8 of our potato plants to see if it makes any difference.

I guess he's trying to protect against the frost we had last night.
I covered mine with rhubard leaves bits of old cloth and anything else i could find.
those i couldnt cover are looking a bit black at the tips today.

Glad to hear someone else has done it - I did this last week too!
My potatoes in pots hadn't enough room to earth up so I applied a mulch of grass cuttings instead. It's done the trick so far, and keeps the soil moist beneath on hot days (I think we did have a couple of those) :D
