Do they only fruit once every two years?
« on: September 28, 2008, 20:38 »
Someone just asked me about plum trees on another forum and although I thought I knew the answer I am starting to doubt myself  :?

she said last year her plum tree had loads of fruit but nothing at all this year, do they only fruit every other year. I had never heard of this but I knew one place that would know the answer  :D

  Number lock on

No but they are a bit like apples and can get themselves into two year cycles, It's hard to get them back but I was told that removing a heafty amount of fruit can sometimes do the trick  :D

When I worked east malling research station I spent many a happy hour up a ladder thinning plums.

Do it after the June drop and thin to about one every 3 or 4 inches
