Last year lost sweetcorn to badgers , that was the consensus on the plot , I wasn't the sole victim.
Had just picket the first of this years crop and within 48 hours damage was done. Apparently they are one of their favourite foods.

Has anybody had this happen , if so how do you deal with it ?

The same happened here, Ten!

They stormed through everyone's plots and kept coming back too!

I eventually used heavy wire netting around the bed (8'x 4'), but a chum told me that they could get at the cobs by just hurling themselves at the netting until it bent!

He was right too, they're pretty determined!

I reckon you may need something quite robust, like pallets etc., to protect your crop, or grow them at home if you can. We had to eventually, but not everyone has the room...

I grew some again this year outside despite previous experience, I built a raised bed with heavy gauge stock fencing nailed to the base and chestnut posts to support the fence. That'll stop em I says to myself, fat chance they still took the lot  . I'll stick to growing them in the polytunnel from now on. The plot 2 over from me put a few twigs around his for protection and they didn't touch them  guess mine were tastier

I recently lost all mine.  Think it's squirrels because I'm not aware of badgers on our plot.  They ate all the corn and left the cob on the plant.  I'm going to cage the sweetcorn next year.

On our site it is deer that take sweetcorn.  They are fairly easy to deter with fence posts and sone decent plastic mesh fence.

Badgers are like mini furry tanks, so you need substantial defences to keep them out.

its funny you should say that because 2 years ago we had the very same thing happen on our allotments they had about 3 lots of sweet corn including ours so we put up a sturdy wire fence and so far nothing has been touched this season

only one other plot holder has bothered to grow sweet corn since that happened
