What can I do with apple puree
« on: October 03, 2012, 09:58 »
Yesterday I cooked and strained overnight 6lbs of cookers to make apple chilli jelly.

This morning I have about 2lbs of  apple puree left.  It seems such a shame to waste it.  Has anyone got any ideas how to use it.  Thanks in anticipation :)

Thanks Mums.  I going for the apple jam receipe.  It will have to be tomorrow now as I'm all 'jammed out' this morning with chilli jelly and sage and garlic jelly.

If it is unsweetened its good with roast pork (sorry if you are veggie) and also as a ice cream sauce.

What do you do with the apple and chilli jelly?  When Joy took me to see our friend Julie last Saturday, I got a big jar of apple and chilli jelly, but haven't the faintest idea what to do with it!

OH likes to put some on the side of his plate with cold meats, pies etc, with cheese and crackers.  Thinned down with hot water make a lovely dip for chinese rolls, sui mais, crackers etc.  Also daub it onto chicken thighs or sausages etc just before finishing cooking for a sweet hot marinade type thing

You can always freeze it in smaller amounts for apple sauce.   Great as filling for turnovers/tarts etc.

Apples and custard :nowink: :nowink: :tongue2:

We had 29 trees in our garden as I grew up, and Mum had loads of options for apples - so many that I hardly dare eat one now!

You may be tempting me to try again.... ;)

Put a dollop on some goats cheese and wrap it in filo pastry. ;)
