Raspberries and strawberries - too late to plant?
« on: March 23, 2013, 19:48 »
Picked up a couple of cheap raspberry canes and strawberry plants  today, have i still got time to get them planted out ( maybe a couple of weeks judging by the current weather) ??

Also does anyone have any tips on planting them?

get them in as soon as your soil is neither frozen solid or waterlogged  ;)

My first year was last season on the plot and I planted my strawbs out on 25 March and had a bumper crop - even with removing half the flowers.  You still have time as the growing season is late this year already!! Get them in when your ground allows you to.

I just sent you a PM about going to my blog to see how I did mine using weed fabric..

My strawberries didn't arrive until early May last year, but I had over 11lbs of strawbs from them, the first ones on 25th June!

I've also got some more waiting in the shed for planting.

I think the strawberry is the most forgiving plant there is... Starve it, Freeze it, forget about it and it will grow.. no matter what..

Now a quick question... I tidied up my plants at the end of summer and now they have more dead brown leaves from the winter.. Should I tidy them up again?
