I'm no expert but don't think you are too late for summer squashes.  They cannot be planted outside until the danger of frost is passed.  Good luck!  They are my favourite veg - so many different varieties.

I'm going to grow some courgettes and pettypan squashes this year which are summer squash, and I've not even sown the seeds yet, so I think there's plenty of time yet.  They're tender vegetables as far as I'm aware, so they don't want any frost.

I'll be sowing my seeds at the end of the month, for planting out mid/end May.

still plenty of time for summer squashes, because they are all sown at the same time.
The only difference is that summer squash are eaten as soon as they are big enough, eg courgettes and patty pans, whereas the winter ones are left to mature/ripen and then stored for winter use.

For winter any of the Acorn squashes store well and are not too big, serve 2 when cut in half, stuffed and roasted.  Uchiki kuri is also a good one and doesn't get too big.
I don't think any of the really small ones like Sweet Dumpling store quite as well  :(
