hi damo,

what variety of corn did you sow?  unfortunately mini corn is a variety that has been bred specifically for that and normal corn won't be the same (or even edible I should think).

sorry

You need to of grown something like minipop for the baby corn, I am growing it this year and so far filled two draws in the freezer as we cant eat it quick enough. As Snoozie says cob corn is not the same although I have never tried to eat it as a ikkle cob.

normal corn will be rock hard if picked small.  Even if you put it in late it may well ripen if we have a bit more sun- summer isn't over yet is it?

Damo, I'd suggest that you have plenty of time yet for your sweetcorn to mature down there in the sunshine belt.

Oop north we have suffered 6 weeks of rain (since our hosepipe ban was introduced) so many things are a little behind. We still patiently await the maturity of our sweetcorn.
The successes and failures of each year keep me motivated for the following year.

love sweetcorn. A really lovely veg. Not the mini "baby corns" which, for me, don't taste of much but the large corn cobs - boiled and a bit of butter/salt/pepper added afterward..bliss.

That said, after two weeks or so with picking a few dozen cobs - with many still to come - even I am feeling slightly weary of sweetcorn. Still, the ones I froze will be a nice treat over the winter months.

I've grown mini-corn for the kinds the past couple of years. Have to harvest it at just the right moment between "mini" and "maxi" :( Decided that the kids love fullsized corn as much / more, and there is a much longer harvest window - probably a week to 10 days - so I'm only going to grow normal corn next year.

My last batch was sown on 12 June, and that should make it in reasonable time - silks have appeared on a few of them

I am getting plenty, its almost like cut n come again corn, honestly I didn't expect the amount we are getting, I am not bothering with cob corn next year, just this minipop one. The best bit is as it dont need pollinating you can grow it in rows or blocks.
Kevinp: I get my seeds from DT Browns, this who our site use for bulk ordering.
