Some weeks ago, I came across a video online which demonstrated how to grow spuds in dalek bins, recycle bins, etc. I'm now experimenting with this method. What I've done is: 1) put compost in the bottom, 2) place tubers on top of the compost, 3) place organic material (in my case just leaves) over the tubers, 4) water, 5) keep adding the leaves to cover the plants as they emerge. The idea, according to the video, is to simply keep adding the organic material until the plants have reached your desired height - and then stop. The video showed the end result.... a massive number of spuds from just the one tuber.

I've just used bags not dissimilar to these -  I only put two seeds in each bag, they are 2nd earlies  (yes a bit late going in) - could I have put three or more in???!

I put an early potatoe swift in potato bags,3 to a bag on four inches of compost and just kept covering them as they grew through it,the bags are now full and the foliage is good and thick,just remember to water them regularly.Mine are in my greenhouse to get an earlier crop.
