Current price of POL and feed etc.
« on: January 06, 2011, 20:08 »
I've been a year now without hens :( & I'm considering getting some more. I miss those eggs sooo much

So how much is a reasonable price for POL these days, nothing fancy warrens or RIR/LS x
these will be working birds who'll need to be good layers. :)

Ooh and how much are you paying for food, organics not an issue as long as it's non-GM ?

Glad to hear you're getting some more chickens Richy :D

I can get little red hen's around here for about £12.50 each.

Layers pellets are about £8 for 20 Kg.

Hope your camera is working Richy , you've not forgotten the law about posting pictures I hope

round here we can get goldlines or warrens (can't remember what they are but the normal brown ones  ::)) for £3 something. me and Grannie went and collected a load not long ago (don't know how the woman does them at that price for POL's but they are doing well at Annies).
Staffies are softer than you think.

I have recently moved from Allen and Page organic as the price went upto about £15-00 and moved onto Garvo at just over £9. However I got low on Tuesday so called into Grannies and bout some Bearts layers off her (cheaper still) and the chooks love them  :D

I thought they were £4.50 Joy, but yes, don't know how she manages that.  Our last lot were £7.  I don't think she raises them herself, but gets them from a commercial breeder and just sells on as and when.  If you remember, they all had their beaks trimmed!

And as to feed, I sell a 20kg bag for £6.50, but Brian wants to put it up a little as the price has gone up a bit, but I won't alter my price unless it goes up again as the rise was only small.
