My understanding was that crumpets had yeast in them and pikelets didn't. It would help if I knew which recipe you used for the crumpets.

i tried crumpets once but failed miserably.  i used dried yeast, but then my bread didn't work well with that either....

i use easy blend fast  active yeast for my bread these days which is lovely now so maybe i should try again.

i think i used delia's recipe for crumpets

my thinking is that the piklet was like the crumpet but not cooked in the ring .
mine were OK but comparing the Delia recipe with the one i used she had more salt and we agreed that ours needed more salt .
so its back to good old Delia .
thanks for the link .

Born and brought up in Nottingham, we called them pikelets and they looked exactly like the southern crumpets. So I've always assumed they were the same item under a different name.
I started out with nothing.....and I've still got most of it.

i always thought crumpets were thicker than pikelets.

wonder what good old Wiki says.....
 Crumpet

pikelet

hmm not much clearer really.

i think is one of those words that everybody means something different by!

As in bread rolls, cobs, baps, bread cakes etc.
Oh dear, I can see a north/south disagreement starting here.
