hi,

In previous posts from me about cabbage, some of you may remember that mine were planted out around the end of July/beginning of August, which i realise is rather late, and I was having problems getting em to heart.. planted them too close together. Now my question is, how long should I give them - if nothing has formed .. the end of october? November? or should they just be left in until March  :?:

3 weeks ago they had a good dosing of ammonium sulphate - they are growing OK otherwise. if they won't 'heart' I'll pull them up to use as erm 'spring greens'   :oops:

just look for bad frosts coming and if they look like it ,cover em with a tent of fleece... i have left em till dec with no frosts   they wont take long to get bigger if they are warm,, a tent always helps

I would let them be, mushy, as most cabbage is quite cold tolerant.  :roll:

Mine started heartening, and I'm harvesting the first few, so they'll be thinned a bit.

But some more experienced people might have better ideas.

thanks, ok I'll leave em in till end of Nov. I've plans for that small cabbage patch...

no .. it will be the other half of the lawn area. Next to it will be one of these:
storage box to keep the rotovators in, so liberating space in the shed for a potting desk
