Veg that can still be sown now, do people sow directly in the ground or start in cell trays or pots. The rain we have had lately the ground is too wet to be trampling over it, thank you for any thoughts

I rarely start anything direct as the slugs eat the lot.

I'm sowing a short row of Purple Top Milan turnip now. I did so last year and got a good crop. They stood well into winter.

I've just sown some Florence fennel and recently sowed kale, chard and kohl rabi - all in modules.

I have just sown perpetual spinach in modules. They will be popped into my raised beds as an when things go over and space is available. Some will be put in 3" pots to plant later in the year.

yes we to  start everything we can in modules because i agree with yorkie slugs would wipe them out before the had chance grow we have been sowing spring cabbage in modules and will be also sowing onion seed to overwinter as well as winter cauliflower to all overwinter in the poly tunnel

Tried a late sowing of peas a few weeks ago, straight into the ground and they are starting to come up now - will know if a few weeks how well or not it has worked - I've also sown peas direct but will be trying the gutter method next year as I do lost some to mice.

Am going to sow some dwarf french beans this week, will go straight into the ground also though this thread is making we think about doing a few in root trainers, so maybe I will half and half them.

Thanks everyone. Sowed 2 types spinach, 2 types swede, Pak choi in modules Sunday. Like all your suggestions. Would do Dwarf Beans but none left. Rain we had here yesterday and today would have drowned seeds if they were in the ground x
