I've just been down to the chickens to see how 1 of my broody hens, Rosie's getting on sitting on her 1 egg and was horrified to find that the top of the egg is cracked. As I have put in the title, the egg is on day 15 today. I'm not sure how long it has been cracked.
It's not a very deep crack, but there is blood on the shell.

Shall I discard it? Or shall I keep it under her just in case? Will/has it die/died because of the crack?

I shall appreciate any advice given!!! Thanks.

Hi Pretty Chick,

I have one that has a small crack that looks like a peckmark from the outside. Didn't subject it to the water test (see candling post) but it's still warm so I've left it and keeping my fingers crossed. It doesn't appear to be too deep and there's no seepage. Oh well, only 2 days to go - good luck with yours

You never know. Recently one of the eggs under my broody was dinked at 13 days - the sort of dink that looks "pecked". I was going to remove it but the hen was clear that she wasn't going to be messed with! Anyway much to my surprise it hatched along with the other four she was sitting on - 3 weeks later, still lovely strong chicks to be proud of
