I have a broody hen and at first was wondering how to stop this, then, had an idea (unlike me). Is there anywhere locally (Plymouth) that i could get a couple of hatching/fertile egggs that she could hatch?
Or is this a very stupid idea?

you could try looking on here:-

but
just think they could all turn out to be cockerels - could you and your neighbours cope with that, plus the fact they can't mate with their sisters so would need unrelated hens should you decide to keep them. Personally I don't hatch with broodies until it is at least March as it is cold out there :)

Ahhhh,
this is why i dont get ideas very often, cockerells in the middle of Plymouth are a bit of a no no I think, my poor neighbors!
So any ideas how to stop the broodyness, should i just remove the egg/eggs she is sitting on?

keep removing the eggs and removing her from the nest box (I have one broody at the moment, just after stopping her sister from being broody ::)). It may take a couple of weeks but probably for the best :)

Just keep moving her out everytime you see her in box. My 3 were all being constantly broody but for some strange reason they have been snapping out of it really quickly recently (perhaps because I am hoping to hatch some eggs in Spring under a broody)

still struggling - keep removing her from the nest box, but we are getting on for a month now and no change - now Violet has joined her in the broodiness! unfortunately i am at work all day - do i just lock them both out of the henhouse and just keep them in the run, as im sure they have both just been in the nestbox all day. i also bought some fake eggs as was advised to put them in the nestbox for them to sit on, but surely that will just make it go on for longer? yours, confused of gravesend!

no fake eggs, nothing. make it as uncomfortable as possible and if you can block the nest boxes off (put stuff in so they cant get in there) the better.

ok will do thanks. have also built the largest new run ever which will be more like an adventure playground so hopefully that will snap them out of it too! :D
