Hello all,

hope Christmas is treating you well,

Just a question regarding hen health, one of my hens seems to have a lot of muck around her rear area, all the others are fine? is it advisable to clean this as it doesnt look very healthy or comfortable?

yes do keep her clean in her nether regions - flies can lay their eggs in the muck and the maggots can cause problems.

Muck round their bums is usually a sign that something is going wrong  .   

Check that there is no evidence of lice eggs - they look like hardened white grainy balls fixed round the shaft of the feather close to skin.

If there are then she, and possible other members of the flock will need treating for lice.

Worms can also cause diarrhea which would make her bum look mucky
