Apart form showing off my garlic harvest  :) This is how I store them as an alternative to plaiting:

Take a length of fencing wire/wire coat hanger and straighten out.
Make a small, tight coil in one end, to form a small 'button' about 2cm in diameter to act as a stop to stop the garlic falling off the end.
Thread garlic onto the wire by pushing the wire through the neck of the dried garlic and arrange so they stack neatly.
Cut the tops of the necks off as you work your way up.
When you get close to the end of the wire put a loop in the top and hang up

If you look at the picture the garlic are neither plaited nor 'roped' in the conventional fashion - the give away is that you can see the ends of the necks in amongst the bulbs.

(Will edit this and put a pic in later as photo bucket not working!)

I'm not knocking it, but is it not easier to just put them in a string bag? :nowink:

Looks really neat. I admit I actually like to have fairly short plaits of onions and garlic as I keep a plait hung in the kitchen to use (and I love to see them all in a row in the cellar) I actually find it quite therapeutic plaiting them, sad that I am.

Good idea though. :)

Impressive harvest! And very tidy. I admit to leaving mine in a grocers tray on the garage floor. We don't have the space to do it properly.

Ooh some good ideas here! I have plaited mine but I don't have anywhere to hang them so they lay on the shelf which I know kind of defeats the object but it is the only option I've got. Hanging onearger item might be an option next year though and I didn't even think about string bags or toy tidies!

Great idea Swing Swang. I just store my in a tray, but this looks altogether better. I'll try and remember for next year.

I thought that we ate a lot of garlic!  I'm impressed.  Mine are still drying out ......
