Hi Chris, our blackrock bantam laid 2 eggs while she was still with her chicks, they were 6 weeks old, so we took her out.  Our Pekin bantam hasn't started laying yet and her chicks are 6 weeks old on Tuesday. Not sure if this is any help.

Hi

I didnt realise I had to take the hens away from the chicks.  I was hoping to keep them all together.  Am I right in assuming that as long as the hens arewith the chicks they wont produce eggs?
Thanks
Chris

Some of my hens stay with their chicks until the chicks are 10 weeks whereas others leave them when they are five weeks old. I always leave it up to the hen when she feels ready to go back to her coup. She will let the chicks know when she has had enough of them. One that stayed with them for 10 weeks started laying at 8 weeks  so they will lay when with their chicks. Don't worry about yours the mum will let you know when she has had enough and also when she is ready to lay again  :)
