Hi..im having a run of bad luck at the mo...I think one of my girls has an impacted croup.  Shes went broody a few months ago and still is although shes appears to be coming out of the coup more often these days.  Ive noticed over the last few days her croup is noticable and and feeling like a sloft water filled balloon?  There is no smell coming from her breath?
Ive tried massaging it and holding her upside down but with no luck.  This morning ive given her some olive oil and massaged her again?  Is there anything else i should be doing? 
Not sure whether just to take her along to see the vet?

Can you get hold of some maggots from a tackle and bait shop? Feed her a few twice a day for a week or so ...

I have a hen with a dropped crop that impacts fairly often and it works well for her.

Thanks i shall nip along and get some maggots from the fishing shop and give it a try!

Hi, if her crop feels soft it is more likely sour crop.  Impacted crop would feel hard and/or fibrous.

Ive had been giving her natural yogart, as i first thought of this although her sick doesnt smell??

It sounds like the problem i had with one of my columbian black tails, she was stealing hay from the guinea pig hutch. i took her to an experienced chicken who put vegetable oil down her throat and made her be sick to empty her crop this is quite stressful for the bird, she recovered well but then managed to steal some more hay about a month later ans she wasnt so lucky. how is your bird doing, hope you have a better outcome.

Well on the plus shes been out of the coup all day today which is a change as she went broody over a month ago.  I called the vet today and she advised i give her olive oil and massage for the next few days.  Ive ordered some maggots which i will try her with too when they arrive.

Im happy to report after a couple of days of olive oil and massage Helgas impacted crop is much better!  Now what am i gonna do with the maggots ive ordered?  :blink:
