Hi all i have just aquired some eggs to place under my broody brown leghorn bantam, she is currently sitting on 3 x LF rubber eggs & 3 x bantam eggs, i intend to replace all the eggs for the 6 i have just acquired.

My question is do i just wait until she pops off the nest for a drink/feed and then swap them ?

Will she know somethings not quite the same and is there a risk of her abandoning the new eggs ?

Also the woman said the eggs had settled for 24hrs so they could go straight in an incubator etc, could someone please explain what this means.

Well i did a straight swap when she popped off the nest, she came back and after a slight reshuffle she settled straight back down.

We've two broody Coucous de France; the first hen has been sitting for about a week. She stole the second Coucous' eggs, rolling them into her clutch. As I've marked her original eggs it was easy to to put them back under Coucou#2. There was a lot of huffing and puffing but she's settled quite happily. Whether Coucou#1 will leave her alone is a moot point..
