Title: bed outdoor bedding material
Post by: Indiana on August 05, 2008, 14:19
I've put straw in their coop and nest boxes but want to put something in the outside run.  At the moment I give them a section of straw every few days which they really enjoy trashing and throwing about. But over the last couple of days it has been really wet.

It's not a problem to muck them out (3 horses to do each day) but just wondered if this was ok for them?

If not any other ideas?

most folks use chipped bark (large size chips) in there run area and then straw for bedding

It's useful stuff to put down when they get wet underfoot, it stops em from sinking     It lasts a month or two before it starts to break down and get stinky so then it goes on the garden as a mulch (after rainfall is best)

For small areas you can use Aubiose horse bedding. Lovely stuff for the nest boxes etc too
