Sowing over next week!
« on: March 02, 2012, 08:49 »
As i'm fairly new to allotmenting and growing your own I would like to know what I can sow in the coldframe.

Most of my seeds have come from Aldi and a lot of them say March but don't mention greenhouse or coldframe!

If you need a list of what seeds I have I can do list later on!

Thanks for the help  ::)
A novice gardener and looking forward to getting seriously fit with my allotment!

The allotment is 16 ft wide and roughly 90 ft long split into 8 plots!

I think it best you give us your list, rather than us reel out things you may not have. Brassicas are good for sowing now in a cold frame, though.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Squash (Butternut) Hawk F1 - Big No!  Indoors April
Turnip Purple Top Milan - I would sow direct
Fennel - April onwards  - sow direct

Aldi

Leek Musselburgh - Yes
Parsnip Hollow Crown - April on sow direct
Tomato Gardener's Delight - No - Start indoors in s few weeks if you have not heated greenhouse
Beetroot Detroit 2 - April sow direct
Carrot early nantes 5 - April sow direct
Courgette All Green bush - April indoors
Spring Onion White Lisbon - yes - a pinch per module
Spinach Best Perpetual - sow direct
Radish Scarlet Globe - yes
Cabbage Greyhound - yes
Brussels Sprout Evesham Special - yes, but I sow a bit later
Broccoli Early Purple - yes, but I sow a bit later
Cauliflower All The Year Round - yes
Leek Lyon 2 - Prizetaker - yes
Swede Best Of all - no, direct from May

Hope that helps - it's my take on it, others will do it differently. There should be some instructions on the packet!
