Things are looking up
« on: April 15, 2011, 13:06 »
I feel smug today. My broad beans are just about to burst into flower, the garlic is looking big and strong, the lettuce are growing like wildfire, I have baby fruit on the gooseberry bushes, all the apple, pear, gage and cherry trees are smothered in blossom and the strawberries are starting to flower. Even the borlotti bean plants that I took a wild gamble on and planted outside on 9th April (and we did have a very slight frost on one night since then) are growing away like mad. Fingers crossed, but this is looking like it might be a rather good year because everything's getting a really good head start.

Even the baby 'snips I planted out yesterday have surprised me, and lived through the night :D

On the downside, I just looked in the greenhouse and discovered my evil lurcher has dug up every single pot of carrots I had in there. Flushed by her success in digging up all my seed potatoes from their containers, she now seems convinced that wherever she sees any kind of pot or container with compost in it there's bound to be something edible underneath the surface. Wish I could think of a way to stop her doing it, gun maybe.

It must be a doggy thing... my darling Jack Russell has just 'buried' some marrowbone biscuits in a freshly planted pot of mini finger carrots!  I have replenished said pot with some giant flakee carrots and actually can't wait to see grandaughter's reaction when her mini veg end up as rather big ones  - tee hee - thanks dog!
