warning!
« on: April 07, 2011, 20:09 »
Check your local forecast..................they said after the heat of today we may have a frost tonight

These early warm days can lull you into a false sense of security  :(

Will a couple of sheets of newspaper over the pots be enough?  They're in big crates, well off the ground and just beginning to show....

Our local forecast is showing overnight lows between 6 and 9 degrees for the next five days.

And even better, I checked the long-term local forecast and they seem to be saying we're going to keep this wonderful weather up to the end of the month, albeit with the odd spell of rainy or unsettled days :)

Be mindful that frost can strike as late as June so keep some fleece handy just in case.

A lump of bubble wrap would be better.    Cheers,   Tony.

It went down to 4C last night according to the local weather station - cold enough for a touch of frost

Always remember, the forecasts are for air temperature a few feet above ground level.
Temperatures at ground level can be as much as 4 degrees lower.

My 94 year old grandad who is a keen gardener has been warning me since the start of March with the old saying "Fogs in March, frosts in May"
We may have beautiful sunshine but I'm not ready to believe that we're free of the risk of frosts for a long time yet.

Can't be doing with either too much heat or any chance of frost.

I'm leaving the greenhouse window open and the plants will simply have to take their chances.

I'm off for a few days break (to make up for 24/7 since before Christmas).

I've no idea but I'd be very surprised if they did. I have a few crowns next to my allotment shed and use the ferns for adding to flowers for my OH & family. I just let them get on with it. Mind you there's no sign of them yet so perhaps they are keeping their heads down until it's warmer.

Last year I dashed out & got a few bales of straw - it worked a treat, they were very cheap & went  long way then were later used for mulching/ slug breeding.
