I bought two small plants from Homebase last year. They haven't died but haven't done much. Any ideas?

Im always suspect of those bushes from homebase, Bq etc.

For a long term project like a fruit bush i would recommend quality supplier.

I agree, I don't buy any plants from B&Q.  My last plant from them a few years ago was a Tree Fern (hence my nickname) because I love them, but it died on me.  So I buy my bushes, etc, from nurseries, namely, Prestbury Nuseries in Cheshire - they are very good and very helpful.

I bought 2 from homebase also last winter. 1 has made some growth the other has hardly moved. Hopefully some fruit this year!

We bought two gooseberry bushes from a local nursery (at different times) & both have done well.  Last year we picked 22-lb of gooseberries off one bush alone & this was only it's second year in the lottie.  I also bought a red gooseberry plant from Wilkinson's in 2008, it was small & cheap so I thought I would give it a try - it didn't produce any fruit the first season it was planted but last year we had quite a large crop of large red berries which I was surprised at considering the size of the bush.

always buy a named variety (look 'em up to get the one you want there are loads to choose from) obviously this would be from a proper nursery/garden centre.  The "shed" offerings are probably just labeled "gooseberry".....  steer well clear of such offerings.
