Hi   all,
          I  have some  seedlings  i`ve   put into 5in   pots.    Should i put them in the greenhouse over winter,  or leave them out   in shelter.    I  started them  early on in the year   outside   and they have done well   with no looking  after.   I  plan to put them out on the   plot next   April.     What do i do with them   over winter.     Any advice  pls   Michael

Not sure, but I would suggest sinking the pots into the ground outside over winter so they don't freeze then planting them out in, say, April. Someone else may be able to advise you better.

            Thats a good idea,   never  thought  of that,   maybe cover them with  straw or fleese.     thanks  Michael

If I had a very powerful telescope, I could see the Isle of Man from my cottage! I have an asparagus bed I made this year with one year old plants from Robinson's (of the Mammoth Onion fame near me). Due to the winds here, the ferns are at a 45 degree angle so I am going to use clematis netting in two layers (lower and upper) put horizontally across the bed to stop them blowing over. Hoping for my first cut next year - with fish and Hollondaise sauce made by my OH who is a chef - mmmmm - Oh My God!!! Good luck with yours.

I put all my extra pots of whatever into the ground for winter to protect the roots. Asparagus are very hardy and will be happy in ground until spring rather than in a greenhouse and possibility of whitefly. Asparagus plants from seeds grow wild in the ditches here. I tried to dig a few up but the root systems were enormous and needed a backhoe.

I've got seedlings from Spring sowing in 5" pots too

I'm planning on moving mine into the greenhouse when the Toms are done.  As much to keep them drier as to keep the pots themselves from freezing

I grew some from seed last year and they over wintered in my back garden, in their pots with no protection and got covered with 6 inches of snow in february! i then planted them at my allotment in april and they are doing great, the ferns are a good 4 foot tall.

so i wouldnt worry about putting them in the greenhouse.
