Elephant garlic
« on: June 07, 2009, 20:35 »
My elephant garlic is showing signs of flowering, checked an old post and it said its a scape and is edible but what do I do with it and will the garlic be ok.  :(

The stems are about an inch thick so am hoping for some monster garlic.  :D

Chop it off & let the plant put energy into the bulb.

Hope you're not disappointed with the lack of flavour, it's very, very mild. Not surprising considering that it's related to the leek.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

You can eat the scapes sliced in stir fries and any recipe which calls for frying garlic with onion :)
