Has anyone grown the mini sweetcorn?
« on: March 26, 2009, 14:19 »
Am I right in  thinking that the plants still grow tall even though the sweetcorns are small?

Also I have loads of 10 litre tubs and 6 spare 40 litre tubs, sooooo which would you use and how many plants per tub etc?  It's really just something  for my daughter to grow.  I've also read that you dont get many per plant.

Just wondered if anyone here has had a go  :D

Thanks xx

The lady on the plot next to me grows it. Yes it still grows quite tall. We are growing it this year - mini pop.

Grew Mini pop last year but planted a row next to a bigger variety. Did not work out as planned but believe it may have been down to cross pollination. Do not understand the cross pollination thing so maybe others can help.

Bought 10 seedings plants today to give it a go after reading this post.  Let you know how I get on later.  Might get enough for a small stir fry if I am lucky. :)

I'm giving them a go too.

After reading up on them, I think one of the hardest things to get right is picking them at the correct time, a couple of days too soon or too late seems to cause a few problems  :(

Any hoots it'll be fun giving it a go  :D

You may be a bit early, whatever you do, don't put them out until you can be certain the last frost has gone. I know you're a bit further south than me, but we had a frost at the end of May last year, so that would be 2 months of keeping them inside.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I grew them a couple of years ago, large plants, small yield.  I can see why they are so expensive in the shops!  WOuldn't bother again, have only grown the normal sized variety since.

I grew them last year.  The plants grew to between 6and 7 feet.
I got about 8 to 10 cobs per plant.
