Where would you recommend that I could get some cheap and sturdy wellies? Are wellies the best for the plot? Would you recommend any other footwear?

I got some cheap rigger boots from ACRO, they do utility clothing etc. Cost £15 with a steel cap and leather uppers with a fur lining. Ive worn them on building sites for the past year and theyve taken some heavy knocks but feel as it they will last forever. The wellies I have are too uncomfortable and rub my calves. Id go for the rigger boots any time - and I always opt for a steel cap, better safe than sorry !

Cheers

Can't recommend any shops, FatGaz, living in Canada as I do, but I agree with Moz that a fitted shoe or boot is far better than boots. The latter rub my heels and calves the wrong way too. I've had less foot trouble when I switched to working boots, but overdoing it will happen no matter what footwear you have.

I always use old work boots when I'm working in the gaden with a pair of hiking boot socks that keep my toes nice and warm.

I got some cheap work boots for £16 and they're great. Steel toe cap, light and easy to get on and off. And the toe cap is handy if you have a mattock.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

I mostly wear clogs so I can go through the house if I`ve forgotten something.I have ruined good shoes, you know how it is,wander out to empty the compost bucket, pull a few weeds on the way back, tie something back, plant something, harvest something.....back to house an hour or so later shoes muddy and bucket forgotten until you`ve taken shoes off,so back down the path to fetch the bucket....

Heh Annie, I've been a cloggie for years.  They are great aren't they.  Used to get them dead cheap at ship's chandlers but now have to shop the WWW

I can dig out the WWW address for you when/if you need replacements.

Heh muntjac, any theories on why clogs seem to be popular among mariners ??

... I thought this thread was for me!! ... arrogance personified

I have white wellies, with masses of big pink roses printed on em, but I prefer to wear my old desert boots.  Although of course, in the summer I need to get a tan on my feet so I wear flip flops ...  8)

I got a pair of Green wellies about 6 weeks ago from Matalan, I think they were about £7, they still have them for sale now (noticed them last Saturday). They seem great for working in this wet weather.
