Why wont peas grow in my propagator?

I have tried a variety of peas and beans in propagators. They seem to have rotted straight away.

The ones I grew under cloches did not come up or were eaten by something.. already!!!

The seeds are fresh.

Can anyone help a frustrated pea gardener?

they like cool conditions so you won't need a propagator or any heat at all

Hi Rita & welcome.

Peas are designed to grow outside. Looks like it was too warm in the propagator - not everything likes them!

Try some in a tray outside or in a cold frame etc. It'll be easier to keep the slugs off.

Do be guided by the wording on the seed packet. It's usually specific and detailed. So if you follow it you should be fine

they can take a few days to germinate as they are quite tough

Pre soak them for a few hours before planting, they should sprout after a couple of days then.

Just stick mine straight in without soaking, have some germinating at the moment

I soaked some for a coupple of hours on saturday and stuck them in a tray, the first ones are already up.

treat 'em mean and they'll come up....... planted my peas ages ago straight outside (as itsays on the packet!) and voila they up and away....

I never soak.

Got 2 x 32' rows of 'Kelvedon Wonder' sown 3 weeks ago looking really lush - about 2" high & a further two rows sown a week ago just emerging.
