I am growing mine in small trough well off the ground. No deeper than 6" probably only 5".
Little fingers close together. If I do them closer than normal they don't grow as deep.
Further apart they produce slightly bent carrots as they tend reach the bottom.
Parisian market carrots never reach the bottom no matter how long you leave them.
Can't make my mind up which one I prefer. Easily get two crops a year.

So this year I bought some cheap deep (300mm + ) storage boxes from Q&B and then created a sort of raised bed that could be covered with a debris netting hooped frame. Storage boxes had draining holes made (melted rather than drilled) and then filled with a mix of general purpose compost, sharp sand and a bit of FBB. Carrot seed Marion were sown successionally and what great results so far. Started harvesting in July and I recon will still be harvesting in early 2024 unless we get a severe spell of frost.
