Some crazy animal has basically churned about half of this raised bed, who knows what it was looking for. Some of the holes are 6 inches deep!

There were 4 planted areas with beetroot (red and gold types), carrots, and some corn salad.  All just seedlings?

I can't figure out what they were after, the seedlings seem too small to be worth it as food.

Any guess what could have caused this? My first thought is squirrels.  Possibly rabbits?  My new perimeter fence is about 5.5 feet high, so I'm not suspecting deer.

If it was London I’d be suspecting foxes , but you are in the southern states so not sure if they are a feature there. Animals are desperate at this time of year, they could be looking for grubs, they might even have smelt something organic eg fertiliser. The local foxes here go wild for blood, fish and bone fertiliser so I’ve had to stop using it. It’s annoying whatever it is. Maybe squirrels, as they store food in the ground for later use and apparently forget whether they’ve stashed it so end up rooting around
