Christmas potatoes?
« on: September 15, 2022, 11:48 »
Hi. I’ve been asked whether you can plant potatoes now to have at Yule. I’ve never done this but remember seeing posts about it. Any advice please? ( I have done a search but it brings up millions of potato related posts…..)
Thanks

How weird. I put Yule and it changed to‘Yule’!
It did it again.  Going to try with Christmas….

Personally I'd just go for it and see if it works for you as there's nothing lost.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

It's a long-standing forum joke that names that relate to 'that' December holiday period cannot be mentioned until much nearer the date
The system automatically changes those words to another  ;)

I had 3 seed potatoes left over after I planted up 3 tubs of Pentland Javelins. I put them in the salad drawer in the fridge, to stop the sprouts growing too big and planted them in a Wilko's builders bucket a few weeks ago and they've already sprouted above the soil level.
At the first sign of cold weather I'll move them into the greenhouse, there should be space once the toms have finished.
Fingers crossed it will work - but who knows  ::)
