First early replacement potatos
« on: January 08, 2022, 16:45 »
I ordered my first earlies from T&M. LadyChristl was once again not available so they substituted Pentland Javelin which were in a terrible condition and unusable. They are happy to replace them with another variety but which should I choose. I have not grown any other first early varieties and would be grateful for some opinions.

Did they offer Swift?

Gardeners World also suggests Accent; as well as the following, which were lower rated: Casablanca, Winston, (Red) Duke of York

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I got the mix of 6 types from T&M and that was supposed to have Lady Christl, but they subbed Pentland Javelin for them.  All mine were in good condition when I got them.

Premiere is in that mix as well, which was one of the attractions  :)

Does any one know why Lady Christl are still not available?

There was a crop failure for the seed of that variety, apparently. IIRC the same thing happened last year, as well

That was what T&M  printed on the delivery advice I got with my seed spuds.  Tubers from Lady Christl not available or not good enough quality to send out.  They have given me a £2 voucher as well as the sub to make up for it.

I think you are right about last year as well.  I didn’t buy that variety, but I do remember people saying it wasn’t available.

You are right it did. Last year T&M substituted with Orla. It doesnt look good if it has had a crop failure for two years running. Shame, it was a lovely tasting potato.
