ripening melons, dead vines!
« on: September 21, 2021, 13:55 »
Hi All. My 'Emir' melons aren't ripe yet and the vines are yellow and withering.
Does the melon skin photosynthesise?
Will these ripen off the vine?
Does the bag and banana trick work? Will they sweeten?

I do not think melons ripen after cutting from the plant.

Watermelons won't ripen after picking, cantaloupe types like Emir should do - no alternative for yours by the sounds of it so you might as well give it a go (and yes, the banana skin/bag trick might help.)

It will probably depend on whether your fruits have reached the critical minimum size to ripen successfully - good luck!  ;)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

My grapevines look dead. I've just spent £30 on two dead sticks
