I've just bought some young gooseberry bush I noticed the wind is breaking some young leaves will that be okay or will it damage the plant hope you can help thanks

Hi I had one more question and I planted to gooseberry I mixed a fine rich soil with some mulch be okay

If that is what you used to pot up the gooseberry bushes in your pictures, they seem to be doing fine in your planting mix.  The leaves look good and dark green.

If you are going to keep them in pots for a while, they will need a regular feed.  A general purpose one every couple of weeks over the spring and summer will be fine

Not sure wind really effects goosberries, they are pretty hardy plants
I have mine in the open in quite a wind struck area and produce very well every year, but at ground level.
They look very healthy plants and about what they should be this time of year.
I just keep them weeded and dig in a little compost around the plant  in early Jan, just before they start to bud.
I always prune over winter and try and keep an umbrella shape with the shoots and remove any crossed ones.

Some say birds like gooseberries, but not seen much of that on mine, but being that high up it may be easier for them to get to, so just be watchful.

Pigeons virtually stripped mine two years ago, so I built a fruit cage.

They stripped mine last year too - the day before I had planned to harvest them

Just been to the allotment today I put a gooseberry bush in last year I noticed today there is a fresh new shoot coming out the ground shall I leave it or take it out

Depends how you re planning to train your gooseberry. If you're keeping it as a bush then you can train it slightly outwards to develop a goblet shape. Gooseberry Sawfly likes the 'peace and quiet' in the centre of a dense bush so opening it out discourages them or at last makes them easier to spot early if they strike.
