I have a bed of 2nd earlies.  Is it better to dig them up  and store, or dig up as needed?

I dug mine up just the other day.
I have taken some already, but I was getting worried about leaving the rest longer to be eaten by slugs. So right or wrong I've dug them up.
I let them dry for a day, brushed the soil off while checking for holes and the good ones are in a sack in the garage, the holey ones will be used first.

I dig mine up once all the leaves have died right back (about 3-4 weeks ago for me). They store really well and it stops the slugs nibbling them

The question was about second earlies though!

Mine (Kestrel & Charlotte) are all dug & stored. I don't intend feeding the slugs!

Mine go in jute sacks in a black dustbin on the balcony as space is limited but as long as we don't get a really harsh winter it works

Best to cut the haulm down to the ground and leave a week or 2 for the skins to set? Then they will store better.

I didn't know that. Cut a lot of mine back last week as the leaves were very yellow and dead looking but haven't had chance to dig potatoes up yet.
Good to know that it is useful thing to do!
