Which Raspberry Bushes?
« on: February 28, 2013, 22:02 »
Hi, can someone please advise a recommended Raspberry cane/bush to buy?

I'm having a look on ebay and they all seem very reasonably priced, but I don't know how good 'Glen Clova' is compared to 'Autumn Treasure'.

I'd really appreciate if anyone knows what would be best to grow in a south facing, sheltered plot, clay soil in Central Scotland.

Thanks

I have not come across a "Glen" prefixed raspberry cane that does not perform all with slight differences in taste and cropping time mainly summer ! For autumn fruit I don't think you can beat autumn bliss an old faithful  :)
I cook therefore I grow

I have Polka and they've been very good, lots of berries and a very nice taste.

Try tulameen. You can get 2 crops, autumn and then again in the spring, from each cane

Polka doesn't seem to cope very well with cold and wet, mine died last year and so did some other plotholders' that I talked to.
I don't know what the fruit tastes like as I didn't get a chance to try it.

Interesting! All the reviews I read said it had coped well in a range of conditions and produced large amounts of fruit. I am putting the canes in today so fingers crossed!
