Ex batts not laying regularly
« on: April 19, 2011, 18:06 »
Hi,

I have had my 3 ex batts for just over a week. The first day we got 4 eggs from them :), and every day since we have had three eggs, apart from the last two days where they only laid 1 between them and today nothing!

Is this normal? Are they egg bound?

I give them grit, and oyster shell, layers mash plus lots of veg and treats.

Any ideas welcome

My ex batts layed for a couple of days after arriving (probably as they still had eggs in their system from the battery) and then didnt lay anything for nearly 2 weeks.  They then started laying again and I get 4 a day every day now.

they just need to settle in to their new environment

:)

I would agree with Phil, the stress of the new environment etc will no doubt halt their production, but once they settle they will be back in production.
You do understand that your girls are ex-batts which means they are going into retirement, which will mean fewer and fewer eggs as time goes on?

But good on you on giving them a lovely home!

Thanks for your advice.

Yes I am fully aware they are now happily retiring,I was just worried they were struggling to lay-thought i may have been doing something wrong

They are so lovely and are starting to look much healthier now :D

Sounds like you are doing everything fine. Just give them a little time and TLC and you will end up with more eggs than you will know what to do with!
