Post by: joannebolton on September 09, 2006, 12:17
hi i was wondering if someone may be able to help with my problem.

I have just been given a greenhouse for nothing and have to dismantle it. we are having big problems with the bolts holding it together and cannot get them moving without lots of force and time. we have tried the ratchet stuff but they dont seem to have a adapter that fits the bolts. has anyone got any ideas please help!!!

Hi there,

I had the same problem when taking down the GH I bought, but I just put a rachet on each bolt and if it came undone well and good, and if it didn't well it still came apart!!  I just bought a box of new s/s bolts not to expensive and no worries...hope that helps..

 :)

WD40 freed a lot of stuck bolts for me.  I also found some just broke - must be a bit heavy handed

Yep WD 40 will free most of them . It's not being heavy handed John, the darn things are made of light alloy blow on 'em too hard and they break. I reckon on breaking at least 20% dismantling a Greenhouse

It sometimes helps if you try to turn the bolt as though you were trying to tighten it first, then try and slacken it. Also instead of using WD40 a good ans cheap alternative is to use diesel and soak the bolts with it overnight.
Good Luck
