Title: Slugs eating onions. Yes, onions !
Post by: hubballi on August 24, 2011, 17:21
As slugs seem to be ruining everything in my garden, even getting into my polycarbonate lean to greenhouse (the big fat ones) that has been sealed. They are now destroying my main crop onions by eating the stems. I found one this morning chewing off the stem. They did the same to my spring onions.

Is this a first here ?

I have seen them do the same to my onion stems. I picked them at that stage because the stems were obviously getting soft, inviting rot in my opinion!!

'Fraid so, they chomped their way through my spring onion seedlings and a few necks of my red onions where the bulb meet the leafy growth. :(

Never had them eating the plants but when the greens are left at the back door en route to the compost bin they are all over them at night... I then arm myeself with salt pot and assault them!!
