[Kleftiwallah]

The title says it all . . .  my white currant bush branshes were seriously contorted last year so much so that none were more than 6 inches from the ground but gave a good crop.  Is this natural? 

I've cut the branches back quite severely to see what happens this year.  Advice/help please.
