One of our members posted this information

http://chat.allotment-garden.org/index.php?topic=3037.msg33882#msg33882

The pictures have unfortunatly gone but the info is there

They are tropical plants and need a good temperature, long growing season and LOADS of water. I believe they take up a lot of space too.

i am growing them at the moment and our weather is just heating up at average temp of 24 degrees and its only since the weather warmed that my vines have gone mad now about 2ft across and i see a change every few days they do need loads of water and be prepared to loose a fair bit of ground for them...saying that i think they are well worth growing because as usual the flavour is far better than any shop bought ones
also i have found if you train them up (rather than on the ground) you will get bigger tubers hope this helps x

It depends, what stage they are at, if real slips, they should have at least little root buds or rootlets only the letter ones are worth planting into final position. And if they are cuttings then especially better to root them in a pot first.

From the tires and winds I imagine, you are planning to grow them outside. Wish for a good summer. ;)
