I've put my first earlies in already; did it last week but seeing as we still may have frosts until May here I'm ready with the fleece for when the foliage comes through.

Some of the old folks have theirs in, some don't.  I think it's down to personal opinion, luck and chance!

Got mine in.
Whilst they are in the ground they should be ok from frost. Once the foliage starts coming though and theres a threat of frost just cover them with soil.

Seen a field near york covered in Fleece, guess thats a load of spuds in - a bit of a risk but guess the difference in price is worth the gamble.

Thinking about it I think I'm going to put just a few in now and take the risk.
Playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order!

I'm planning third week in March for earlies (depending on the weather) mid April for mains.

Brought mine yesterday. Rocket early's and Maris Piper main. No chits on the Maris but the Rocket were chitting in the bag. Put them both in the shed, planing on planting them towards the end  the month, weather permitting ::)
Life is a heap of manure. Growing one minute, stinking the next.

well my earlies are chitting like mad (maris peer) and my mains (maris piper) haven't chitted quite so frenetically. So with out taking over the thread, do you plant the two crops at the same time or should I hold off with my main?

If so, I'm actually tempted to put my earlies in tomorrow (providing it's not chucking it down) as my next two weekends I am going to be rushed off my feet!

Roughly go in at the same time, although dont think will hurt with a break inbetween. The main crop just stay in the ground longer to bulk up to a bigger size.

So should I leave the main crop until they've chitted a bit more?

I'm no expert but i dont think that it would harm if you did. I'm not planing on putting mine on the plot for another two maybe three weeks so plenty of chitting time.
