Jersey Royals....... Why?
« on: May 25, 2008, 14:44 »
Aren't what they used to be.....

35 minutes to cook?
And expensive.
Time to explode the myth.

Over production.?

Overrated?

Home grown better?

Jersey Royals....... Why?

Very much overrated nowadays I'm afraid.  Gone are the days when you opened the bag and got that very distinctive "Jersey Royal Aroma", you might as well just be eating any other generic new potato.  Home grown Pink Fur apple are the salad spuds of the future
Not a complete idiot, bits of me are missing.

Nothing better than a Royal spud

I'm biased,I know, but there is nothing better than a home-grown Jersey Royal, freshly dug, a quick wash, a sprig of mint when boiling, no longer than 18 mins to the table and served with lashings of Jersey butter. Yummee.

I must admit though, it was a huge disappointment to me when we visited Jersey for the first time this March, and the whole island (well half) seemed to be covered in cling film to protect the potatoes.
