I have a recipe for Apple and bramble jam but it asks for green apples

Are they cooking apples or eaters  :?

I think the jam recipe simply needs a green apple that's more tart and firmer to stand up to the cooking. Either type should work. Often, home jamming is using up what you have on hand.
