Today I harvested my autumn sown parsnips  
They'd grown in a bucket, lived in greenhouse all winter, and I didn't know what (if anything) I'd get from them, sowing them at that daft time of year.
But there was a good amount of baby-sized parsnips, same size as a fat carrot and good length too. And cos they'd grown in compost in a bucket, they weren't even dirty - just needed a quick rinse.
The person I gave them to roasted them straightaway and said they were lovely and sweet
I was really pleased, going to do it again this year!
(Sorry if all of you do this anyway  :oops:   it was a revelation to me)

Other than the giving them away  :shock:  this sounds a great idea. I fancy trying this. What size was the bucket and what variety did you use? I have some seed (tender & true) left and was going to chuck it but this is a much better idea!

 I don't like them bean, only grow them to give away.
It was a florist's black bucket and they were Gladiator.
They were slow to get up to much, cos wrong time of year, but they plodded on slowly.....and once spring came and the sun appeared they were off and away

I've got lots of those black buckets so will give it a go and see if I get the same success. I like the idea of sowing something when most things are finishing and any success will be a bonus
