What to do with red onions
« on: July 01, 2010, 16:21 »
Hi all,
I have lots of red barron onions half of them bolted and are roughly the size of a satsuma
I have been using them in salads and cooking, but was woundering if there were other things that I could do with them ..
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated,as I have loads ;)

Thanks :)

My answer to most veg gluts in roast veg which I use in soups or in pasta sauces or as pizza toppings.

Now that sounds a brilliant suggestion... cheaper than my OH buying it in a jar too!

All I could do with now is the destructions instructio... recipe

Mine have bolted as well and I'll use some for red onion chutney/marmalade but a friend suggested frying them in batches and freezing them to use later for quiches, soups etc so I'm going to do that because the end product will be useful for me.

If you make some bread dough and mix in the red onions chopped, cook the bread. You can then have onion bread fresh or the cooked bread rolls will freeze and can be baked again to give you crispier bread!
