Cauli seedlings .What to do next?
« on: January 23, 2012, 21:13 »
I planted some cauli and some onion seeds about a week and a half ago and ..............they've grown!   :D    Well the caulis have anyway.
What do I do with them now?

It's better to burn out than to fade away !!     ;)

Get them somewhere cool and light.

Unheated greenhouse/coldframe for example. Do NOT keep them indoors.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

They're in an upstairs bedroom on the windowsill at the minute.

Might be cool to you, but it's warm to them.

They do not want to be in a house.

Right cauliflower gurus, I also need some advice.

Flushed with the success of the onion seedlings who are now in the greenhouse growing on in a covered propagator, I sowed some caulies on 10th Jan.  They are outside in a covered but unheated (note DD - no need for light sabre) propagator in the greenhouse as well, but not appeared as yet.  Is this OK?

I'm trying to crack of my vegetable bete noires this year and caulies feature high on the list.  If they don't show soon I will be wreck by the time it comes to another crack at the swedes

Looking back at my diary, at this time of year mine took 12 days, in a greenhouse with a little warmth.

Don't panic yet!

Thanks Obi One - ever the voice of calm and reason   ;)

I managed to get distracted by the bargain seed basket at work again and have got a pack of Onion Supasweet which is a big mild salad onion.  Will that work if sown now  :)

If it is any help, I have salad onions which have germinated.

Sown on 8th Jan.. signs of life on 16th Jan, but none are upright yet.

Keeps me happy visiting them all down in the greenhouse
