One of my girls has not developed a comb ??  Is this something to worry about ?? Dosnt look as though it will grow more than it is now , which is a thin hard ridge

She is a right little clown so she is happy and safe  :)

It has taken ages for 2 of my ´point of lay´ RHR hens to get their combs, one being Emu, I can´t ever see her getting a big comb. She is the hen with the wonky neck.

Some of our 28 week old Amberlinks still only have very small combs, but others the same age are laying well and have BIG red combs!  Strange eh???

She is about 24 weeks pol. Speckled ( cuckoo ) Maran. She is healthy in every other way :)  dont know if she is one of my layers as I get 3 eggs from 7 girls  :?   :?

She is very calm and likes to follow us around the plot eats well although VERY low in the pecking order.

Oh and she,s called "Hev" as in Eastenders  :D   :D   :D

My Gloria had a tiny comb and then her legs went yellow in early November. She was the lowest in the pecking order.  She laid her first egg on Christmas day, appears to have grown in confidence and Lords it up a bit in the garden now.  The best bit is that her comb is getting larger and looks lovely!

Hi Alby

Maran hens tend to have a small stumpy comb until they come into lay, 4 to 6 weeks before they start  laying there combs will start to grow and go very bright red, they look stunning.

I have had Marans that laid there first egg at 30 weeks.

So don’t worry they will lay and the eggs are worth waiting for.

I had 2 Light Sussex same age and sisters. One's comb matured and she started to lay. About 6/8 weeks on the other ones is now maturing and I await her first egg shortly - hopefully!!
