Heatwave Chillis
« on: October 04, 2010, 18:04 »
My chilli plant is laden with chillis, the first of which appeared in July.

I have been waiting since then for them to change colour.  The plant is still putting out new flowers.

The packet says they should go red, orange or yellow but they remain resolutely green - what am I doing wrong?  Should I just give up and eat them?

Thanks

Whoops, sorry, didn't see the thread below.  Might try picking one and see if it reddens.

Thank for the reminder about chillies - I forgot i had brought my chilli plant indoors from the cold and haven't watered it for a week! Just got there in time.

Hi mebanana! :D You're quite right to try picking the chillis, they should ripen quite successfully off the plant, for instance made into a ristra.

There's a photo of of here, if you haven't come across them before.

I was threading my SuperChillis onto a ristra last week. I'm rubbish at using a needle and thread, so I kept unthreading the needle, and to rethread it I of course had to suck the thread. Took me a while to work out why my mouth was burning :)
